Temperature gauges are instruments used to measure the temperature or internal heat of any homogeneous medium. They have been in existence for a very long time. There are used in almost all industrial process manufacturing and applications and a lot of our home appliances. They are an essential necessity for a lot of process systems and are widely in use within the industry.
There are many different kinds of temperature gauges in existence today. The choice of their usage depends on the purpose. - Bi-metal Temperature Gauges : These devices work on the principle of thermal expansion. They are very rugged in construction and give pretty accurate readings. These devices can measure temperatures in the range of -50 to 600 degrees C.
- Liquid-filled Temperature Gauges : These devices work on the principle of expanding the properties of the liquid.
- Gas-filled Temperature Gauges : These devices are similar to the ones mentioned previously, but they work on the principles of gas expansion, and they cover a more comprehensive range of measurements, namely from -200 to 800 degrees C.
Apart from those as mentioned earlier, there are other more sophisticated devices that take very precise inputs from devices like RTDs and thermocouples to give results. The range of measurements offered by these more sophisticated devices is even larger and their accuracy in even greater.
Looking at the industry, we can safely say temperature gauges are used in almost all aspects of industrial manufacturing processes. They also enjoy a wide presence in other household appliances and technologies that we use every day, making them uniquely attached to our lives!
